Authentic Taste of Serbia

10th anniversary of Belgrade Wine Salon Is brought together more than 70 wineries, mostly from Serbia. 10 from Slovenia. The festival is great event where professional public and wine lovers can see an overview of the wine scene. I was there for the second time and I have to say that the quality of service and presentation did not fall. Festival was this year a little smaller comparing to the last year. At the same time was held another festival called Wine & Dine in Beograd. Both festivals did good job. The In Vino is more serious old fashioned with quality accompanying program and Wine & Dine is more focused on young audiences - its mission is to raise the culture of wine drinking in young.
I also liked very much again horizontal & vertical tastings hosted by wine connoisseur Slavomir Ćirović (In Vino). His workshops entitled Syrah /Shiraz Balkan Horizontal; Serbian Horizontal with Tamjanika, Smederevka and Morava were excellent. We learned what authentic taste of Serbia is.

Some facts: 500 wines, 77 (last year 83) wine makers, 10 from Slovenia (last year 8), 42 wine tastings; my TOP winery was – VINARIJA ALEKSIČ (www.podrumaleksic.sr)

My TOP
  • Sauvignon 2013 (sample direct from the barrel), dry, Podrum Janko, Smederevo, Serbia (blackcurrants nose and taste indicate the great potential)
  • Tri Morave 2012 (cuvee Tamjanika, Smederevka, Morava), 12.5%, dry, Temet, Lozovik, Serbia (well balanced blend with authentic spirit)
  • Kardaš Cabernet Sauvignon 2011, 14%, dry, Aleksić vinarija, Vranje, Serbia (hot)

On the show were also Slovenian wine makers: Kmetija Kocijančič Zanut, Dornberg, Edi Simnčič, Klet Goriška Brda, Marjan Simčič, Ščurek, Dveri-Pax, Vinska klet Metlika, Vinarstvo Erzetič, Radgonske gorice.
