Portugieser du Monde 2015, 10-11 April, Pecs, Hungary by stasa cafuta trcek (text and photo) 3 Silver for Slovenian Portugieser Portugieser du Monde, the international showcase of Portugieser
producers and wines, organised by the publisher of the
Pécsi Borozó wine and gastronomy magazine was held on 10-11 April for
the third time. In the first year, 62 wines from 4 countries, last year 72 samples from 6 countries, this year 67 wines of 8 countries were submitted to the international competition. Winemakers could enter their young, 2014 vintage Portugiesers, Portugiesers of earlier vintages and blends with a minimum Portugieser content of 25%. This year, the acclaimed members of the jury (with chairman and wine academy member Dr. József Kosárka) with international competition experience arrived to Pécs from Slovakia, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Hungary as well, with the total number of 14 members. The fresh vintage were less successful than usual (2014 vinage was eally bad year, lots of heavy rain not enough sun), but we - jury found real treasures among older Portugieser wines. Mature, full body, riped tannins - all what you can call big wine. "The public tasting event was even more popular than ever before, offering almost fifty different wines from 17 wineries, welcoming almost 300 visitors at the venue of the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter in Pécs," says Gyorffy Zoltan, event organizer. He hopes to welcome even more producers and wines to the competition and the tasting event next year. "We are launching a new project for next year's event, a book published under the Portugieser du Monde title, about the most famous vineyards and the history of the variety," announces Zolan.
