What: Decanter Regional Trophy for Slovenian Wines 2014

Ptujska klet, Zlati Grič and Dveri-Pax wineries are the only Slovenian winners of the regional Decanter wine Trophy.

At the end of September, three wine cellars – Ptujska klet, Zlati Grič and Dveri-Pax from Štajerska Slovenija Wine District, Podravje Wine Region, Slovenia organized a wine event in Križanke - Ljubljana, to present to the guests wines that got the regional Decanter wine Trophy awards:

• Dveri-Pax received for straw wine Furmint 2012

• Ptujska klet for Pullus:

Sauvignon 2013 and

Pullus G Sauvignon 2013, both dry wines

• Zlati Grič for Pinot Noir (dry) 2012.

I was surprised when I tasted pinot noir, because it has everything – it is charming on the nose and in mouth, very fruity and fresh (13 months has been matured in used barriques). Dveri-Pax is also famous for straw wine (wine from dried grapes); it is very well balanced, acidity makes wine very lively, taste and long aftertaste reminds on dried fruits. Pullus is known in Slovenia as one of the best producers of sauvignons. The first one, white label is more fresh, juicy and rich on the nose, Pullus G is more layered in the mouth.
