Taste of Austrian Culture
When I first visited VieVinum, that was in 2004, I was astonished (wine festival is held every 2 years in Hofburg - The Habsburg’s former imperial residence). I said to my self – well done Austrians! That time, I was invited by 2 Slovenian wine makers: MiroVino & Hlebec. They told me – you have to see it & taste it! And they were right. Now its 2010 and I am happy I came back and discover more about Austrian wine makers & their wines. VieVinum is the showcase of Austrian wine Culture. I like their tradition and future thinking. Event is also recognised as the summit for gastronomes, journalists, wine retailers & wine lovers alike.
My TOP 6 Austrian wines:
Willi Bründlmayer; Bründlmayer Brut 2006; Kamptal (elegant, fruity & mineral)
Rudi Pichler; Grüner Veltliner – Magnum 2008; Wachau (fresh & herby cumin)
Bernard Ott; Grüner Veltliner 2009 – amphorenwein, Wagram (fresh with fine pine essential oil taste)
Hans Tschida KG; Muskat Ottonel 2006 (Schilfwein);Neusiedlersee (intensive rose scent)
Setzer; Grüner Veltliner 2009; Weinviertel DAC (sweet & spicy nose; herb & fresh taste)
Tement; Sauvignon Blanc 2008; Südsteiermark – Zieregg (gooseberry & mineral)
On the show were also Slovenian wine makers:
Santomas, Černe, Korenika & Moškon, Štekar, Jakončič, Ščurek, Batič, Poljšak, Zaloščan – Adami, Guerilla, Verus vinogradi, Radgonske gorice, Valdhuber, Gaube, Steyer, Joannes Protner, Kogl.
