I am happy that Maribor has Wine Festival as VinDel. Eastern part of Slovenia has a lot of winelovers, who live for this wine event. It is a place where wine tasters can taste year after year wine samples and compare it from the previous years. On the show there were less wine exhibitors comparing to last year, around 100, but still enough material to taste for 1 day. I found very nice new winery (Vino Greif) with fresh and aromatic wines from Štajerska Wine District and also full bodied wines from Brda (Reia). On the show there were also cooking presentations of top Slovenian Chefs, such as Janez Bratovž (JB) and Marko Pavčnik (Pavus). On the programme was lecture and tasting of Welschriesling (Laški rizling), where oenologist Bojan Kobal from Ptujska klet Pullus Winery tell us and show us practical potential of this grape variety whose origin could be by the latest hypothesis by Jancis Robinson, Julia Harding, José Vouillamoz in their book Wine Grapes are in Croatia.

My TOP

    • Sauvignon 2012, 13%, dry, Vino Greif, Štajerska Slovenija Wine District, Wine Region Podravje, Slovenia (very fresh bouquet)

    • Tolovaj (Jakot) 2011, 13%, dry, Reia, Goriška Brda wine district, Primorska wine region, Slovenia (full-bodied taste with spicy and salty aftertaste)

    • Sivi pinot (Pinot Grigio) 2012, 14%, dry, Gjerkeš, Prekmurje Wine District, Wine Region Podravje, Slovenia (exquisite copper color)
