by stasa cafuta trcek (text & photo)

When: 9. march 2012

Where: Vila Istenič, Stara vas na Bizeljskem, Slovenia

What: Twenty sparkling wines took place in a comparative blind tasting

Janez Istenic, head of the family, who started at 1968 as the first small – private producer of sparkling wines in Slovenia, led the tasting of 20 sparkling wines at Vila Istenic. We tasted 5 sparkling wines from Penine Istenic, 11 sect from Germany and 4 Champagnes. Thirteen white and seven rose. Sects were from wineries: Solter, Raumland, Barth and Schönleber (white mainly from Riesling, rose from Pinot Noir), Champagnes were from the winery called Edmond Dubois. Evening was not only enjoyable, but pretty much educational. Looking forward to join the new adventure with mr. Istenic and his wealth of knowledge about sparkling wines.
